Favignana is part of the Egadi
archipelago, located just 10 miles from Trapani. These islands unlike other
Sicilian, are of volcanic origin and are considered "marine nature reserve." Of
the three Favignana, which derives its name from the wind that blows from the
south, the Zephyr, is the largest, and equipped accommodation. Just visible on
the island, you can see the famous Gothic-Renaissance works of the trap, once
one of the most famous of the Mediterranean. The island is ideal for those who
want to spend a quiet holiday away from it all in the pristine green of its
territory protected. Tourist attractions for which the island is famous for,
plus a top-class cuisine, we find, in fact, one of the best restaurants in
Sicily: the Egadi. Favignana offers enchanting places such as the area in the
sea from the port of Cala Main, arrive after a couple of miles to St. Nicholas,
very important archaeological site where there are the remains of a famous
necropolis of the Hellenistic period. Soon after we meet in the tufa caves of
Cala Rossa, where it was shipped the precious material, which in the past was
one of the principal business activities of the island. Continuing around the
island we Punta Fanfalo, Blue Cove, Punta Longa and Punta Sottile and numerous
coves, rocks and islets. As regards, however, the internal environment of
Favignana, we can say that the area of greatest interest is represented by the
Mount Catherine, an area rich in flora and fauna, not to be found anywhere else.
Levanzo, north of the Egadi in the
port of Favignana, the lonely island is an oasis for those seeking peace,
the silence and the neighbors next door, we all live together, islanders and
foreigners, outside, in the only way that through the tiny town,
concentrated in Cala Dogana south with its harbor, it is the smallest of the
archipelago. To the north there is a large hollow surrounded, surrounded by
rugged cliffs and Capogrosso with its lighthouse. The only way is a path
that crosses the island from one side to another, with rare branching that
can reach old solitary huts of shepherds. Geologically, Levanzo is the
oldest of the islands of the archipelago, its formation dates back to the
Triassic period, about two hundred million years ago. Is famous for the cave
of the Genovese, figures, and his graffiti evidence of human presence on the
island dating back more than 10,000 years ago, and gave the island and its
archipelago an international reputation.
Marettimo, battered by the current
and much more jagged Levanzo and Favignana, it is also compared to the other
two the oldest geologically. There are numerous caves exist on the west
side: the cave of the Camel, with the clear sea-green transparent; Bombard
of the cave at the bottom with a shape reminiscent of limestone with the
miter of the Pope, the cave of the Nativity which is the most especially
beautiful at sunset. One of the most beautiful island is Cala Manione, along
with the Punta Mugnone, extreme NW summit of the island, Cala Bianca, Punta
Bassana, a paradise for divers and southeast of Punta Libeccio where there
is a lighthouse.
